Music Ministries- God Kindles a Light that Never Dies Away

by J. Senja Morgan, Director of Music Ministries

On a Sunday afternoon nearly three years ago I stayed behind to practice the pipe organ. I had just started my ministry at ECC. Earlier that morning, we had finished Livestreaming worship with a skeleton crew of musicians, since it was in the early part of the pandemic, and hardly anyone was allowed in the church.

Suddenly, I looked over my shoulder, and there was this magnificent sunset streaming through the window! Grabbing my phone, I grabbed the above photo. It reminds me of a few Scriptures:

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.-Genesis 1:3

Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? ...while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy?-Job 38: 4, 7

God created light out of His words! We get to praise God with His word and music! One of my fave Taize chants is titled “Within Our Darkest Night.” Have a listen at the link above. We will be singing this during worship on Maundy Thursday, as a reminder that even when all seems bleak and dark on our journey to Good Friday, God is always kindling a fire that will never die away. Trust in his love and Resurrection promise as we head toward Easter!
