Homeless Awareness Weekend 2017!

Homeless Awareness Weekend 2017!

Our annual, area-wide sleep-out is coming up on November 10-12. High school students from all over the greater Attleboro area will be gathering at Mason Field to sleep out for two nights in cardboard boxes and work to raise awareness and funds for ending homelessness in our towns. And yes, we really do sleep in boxes for two nights in the middle of November.

All high school students are invited to join us! This is a great event to bring your friends to, as well.

We'll meet at Mason Field in North Attleboro at 3:00pm on Friday, November 10 to set up our boxes and get settled. We'll have a pizza dinner at church at 6, and then host an opening worship service for everyone at 7, and afterwards we'll all walk to the field together. Saturday is full of raising awareness and receiving donations. All meals will be taken care of. We will all get breakfast at church before the first service, and then all attend church together. We're done after that service, about 9:45am, on Sunday, November 12.

To participate, students must have filled out and signed our health history and waiver, as well as a signed parent permission form.

To sign up, click the button bellow to register. Talk to Pastor Chris if you have any questions!

RollerRama 4

May the Fourth Be With You!

Our theme is year is, you guessed it, STAR WARS! There'll be a prize for the best costume, so come dressed for a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

The plan is to meet at church at 4pm and return around 8:30pm. Cost is pretty simple: $8 buys you unlimited pizza, soda and skating, and it's $2 extra for laser tag.

Fill out the form bellow to register. We need registrations in by April 29 to ensure we have enough car space.

If you have not yet turned in the medical history and waiver form yet, please do so before RollerRama.

Homeless Awareness Weekend!

It's time again for our annual Homeless Awareness Weekend, where we and other area churches sleep in boxes outside to raise funds and awareness to end homelessness in Attleboro. It's a great event for high schoolers that does great ministry, and it's a ton of fun, too!

This year's HAW is November 11-13. We start setting up our boxes (did I mention we sleep outside for two nights!) around 3pm on Nov 11, and we'll be done after the first service at Church on Sunday, Nov 13, around 9:45am. All meals will be provided during the weekend, but students are responsible for bringing their own sleeping bags and blankets.

There is no cost for this event, but donations are welcome! We're celebrating 10 years of HAW, so we'd like it to be our biggest donation year yet!

To sign up, complete the form bellow. I will also need a completely filled out (front and back) signed (by both students and adults) health history and waiver, which you can download and print here. Also, please download and print this permission form, or fill one out here at church.

Registrations need to be in by November 6th, so invite your friends now!

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Pastor Chris!

A New Year for FNL

Middle School Friday Night Live kicks off this Friday! We're excited to start things off with a great series on relationships, called "Your Move."

[vimeo 183567046 w=640 h=360]

Our relationships with friends and family can be awesome one minute, then tense the next minute, then awesome again. As a middle schooler, what's your move when things get tough? We'll walk it through in these next three sessions.

See you there!

XL Kicks off a new year with a new series

This year at XL we'll being working through a variety of series, starting with WIRED. We live in a connected world, but three connections are more fundamentally important than Instagram or Snapchat. We'll spend the next three weeks looking at our connections to God, our neighbors, and ourselves. Check out a preview here:

[vimeo 182718518 w=640 h=360]

I'm excited about diving into these relationships in small groups with our students! This is a great time to invite your friends!

A Mountaintop Experience

Fall is coming up all to quick, and that means we need to soak up the summer while we still can! Our "Last Gasp" of summer event this year will be an overnight stay at Pilgrim Pines and then hiking Mt. Monadnock! For both Middle and High Schoolers!

We'll head up on Sunday, August 21 for the afternoon of swimming and hanging out, then eat dinner, head to bed, grab breakfast and a sack lunch (provided by Pilgrim Pines), and go and hike that mountain! We will meet at church at 1pm on Sunday. We're planning on being back home around 4pm on Monday, but the hike may take longer than anticipated.

Packing list:

  • bedding, pillow, toiletries
  • swimsuit
  • sunscreen
  • hiking clothes
  • good shoes for the hike - no flip flops on the mountain!
  • water bottle
  • backpack to carry water bottle and lunch (which will be provided by Pilgrim Pines)
  • snacks for the hike, if you want to carry them
  • rain coat (just in case)

Here is the permission form. We'll need this signed by a parent/guardian in order for your student to come with. Please print this and bring it on Sunday.

If you're interested in attending, please fill out this form to reserve your spot. There will be a permission slip coming along soon.

A Potpourri of Questions

XL for the past few months has been focused on "tough questions" and we've had some really wonderful conversations. We've talked through questions like, Does God discriminate against women? Is Jesus the only way to God? Can I be a Christian and believe in evolution? and more. It's been great, but it's time to open up the floodgates.

I want to know what kinds of questions you have! We'll spend time at our next XL, May 15 (no XL on May 8... spend time with your mothers!), going through the questions that you have, and talking through them from a Biblical point of view.

Have questions about a particular story or theme in the Bible? Wonder what the Bible says about something? Did your crazy uncle say something that's making you think? Let's talk about it at XL!

You can email or text me your questions, or fill out the form bellow anonymously. Remember, XL is a safe, judgement-free zone where we can enter into conversation together. I'm excited have more great conversations!

What's your question? *

WinterBlast info

Winter retreat is this Friday! Woohoo!

Travel Details

We'll be meeting at church at 3:45pm on Friday, Feb 5, so we can leave by 4 and beat the traffic. We are driving two vehicles (looking for a second minivan, if you can spare it...) and are planning on stopping for dinner, so please have cash ready for that.

We'll be back to church between 1:30 and 2pm on Sunday the 7th, and are stopping for lunch then, as well. Your student will need cash for this as well.

Packing List:

  • Sleeping bag
  • Pillow
  • Towel
  • Toiletries
  • Warm winter gear
  • Helmet (Helmets are required on the ice. Pilgrim Pines has some available, but it is helpful if some campers can bring their own)
  • Ice skates and sleds (optional, Pilgrim Pines has some)

If you have not yet filled out our medical release form, please print and fill out both pages and bring it to church on Friday. You can find it here.

Joy and I will be leading this trip, and we couldn't be more excited! Please let me know if you have questions or concerns.

WinterBlast Registration!

Our Middle School's winter retreat, WinterBlast, is just around the corner! We head up to Pilgrim Pines on February 5 to 7 for this fantastic weekend away.

Registration will happen through Pilgrim Pine's website, which you can find here. The cost for this event is $120. We do have some scholarships available, and you can contact Pastor Chris about that.

Exact times for pick up and drop off will be coming out soon. Who's excited?

WinterFest Travel and Packing info

With WinterFest just a few days away, here are the details you need for travel and packing.

Travel information
This year we're not taking a charter bus to WinterFest, but are opting for a 15-passenger van and minivan. How awesome is that?!

We're meeting at church at 2:45 this Friday in order to pack and get on the road by 3.  We will be stopping for dinner on the way, so pack a sandwich or bring cash for that.

Sunday, we're shooting to be back to church between 5 and 6, depending on when the last worship session ends. We will stop for a meal during that trip as well, so bring cash for that.

Weather for the weekend looks to be in the low 40's, with possibly some snow on Saturday and rain on Sunday. Pack some good shoes and a winter coat that can handle rain, along with a hat and gloves. Layers are a good way to handle cold outside and warm in the chapel area.

Bring your own bedding, shower stuff, Bible, journal, and water bottle. And make sure you have cash for food on the drives and some extra for WinterFest gear if you want.

Feel free to bring games to play in the car or books to read.

Follow Along!
If you're not going on this retreat, you can still follow along! Find us on Instagram @ECCAyouth or on the web at

If you have questions, feel free to respond to this email or call my cell phone (email me if you would like my number). I'll have my phone on me the whole weekend for emergencies.

See you Friday!

Youth Group Christmas Parties!

XL and FNL's Christmas parties are this week

Both youth groups will be celebrating Christmas with White Elephant gift exchanges! Bring a wacky, off-the-wall gift (under $5 if you have to buy one), wrapped and ready to exchange. Please also bring a snack to share.

Friday Night Live is this Friday, the 18th, from 7pm to 9pm.
XL is Sunday, the 20th, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

See you there!

WinterFest registration

WinterFest is only one short month away. That means we need to get registered now! Registration happens on Pilgrim Pines' website; click here to get there.

This High School retreat will be January 8-10, 2016. We'll meet at church that Friday afternoon, hop on bus, have a fantastic weekend, and then be back Sunday before dinner time. Detailed information will be out soon, so keep an eye out.

We do offer scholarships for families who need it. Please talk to Pastor Chris or send him an email for more information. Registration costs for the weekend go to Pilgrim Pines, but we will be collecting the bus cost ourselves. We'll have final cost for you soon.

It's going to be a great retreat! Get pumped!

Middle School Day Trip

We've got a great Middle School trip planned! On Saturday November 21, we'll be heading up to 5 Wits in Foxboro for an awesome afternoon of espionage and ice cream. We'll meet at church at noon on the 21st and be back around 3pm. The best part? the 5 Wits ticket is free! Students only need to bring a little extra cash for a snack after the show, if they want one.

You can download and print out the permission slip here, and we'll have copies at Friday Night Live this Friday.

This is going to be great!

High School Event Sign Ups!

There are a couple things to sign up for, now that the school year is in full swing. Please print and return these permission slips as soon as you can! Alternately, I'll have hard copies of these at church.

It's a long tradition to take one XL and head off church grounds and dive into some guy stuff or girl stuff. We're still nailing down details, but here's the permission slip to head off sight. We might be gathering earlier than our usual XL start time, so keep an eye on your email for that (and make sure you've signed up for emails!), but we will be back by 8:30pm. Click here to download that permission form.

It's almost here! More details will be coming out shortly for that, but the sooner I can get numbers the better! So click here for that permission slip.

If you haven't yet turned in your 2015-16 health history/waiver form, click here to download it. We must have this filled out to participate in any of these events! I'll have hard copies at church, as well.

Details, details, details

We leave for CHIC in just about a week. How crazy is that! Here are some details that you need to be aware of.

First, make sure you're up to date on our travel plans and have taken a good long look at the packing list. Everyone is only allowed one checked bag, under 50 pounds, so please be aware as you're packing.

We need to be packed and ready to leave the church by 7:00am on Saturday, July 11. Please plan on arriving at church before 7 so we can arrange bags in the cars. We will also have a short meeting before we leave church to get us all on the same page for our day of travel.

You need to wear your CHIC t-shirt for the days of travel! Dig those out of your closets or off the floor and find them now so they're ready to go. If you joined our group after we handed those out, I have some extras for you (though they may not be in your size...). If you cannot find your shirt, talk to me as soon as possible.

To get our tickets and get through security at the airport: If you are under 18, bring your student ID from school. If you don't have a student ID, you'll be okay without it, but it's better to have an ID than not. If you are over 18, you need a government issued ID, like a driver's license, to get through security. Leaders, this does include us.

Meals and money

During the week of CHIC, all meals will be covered in the cafeteria. However, we do have four meals that will not be covered, so we all need to bring extra money for those meals. We're anticipating about $10 per meal, so $50 would be safest. There will also be opportunities for purchasing CHIC stuff, as well as a wonderful chance to donate money toward clean water in India. Keep that offering in mind throughout the week.

All told, we recommend coming with $100 spending money for the week. Each student will be responsible for his or her own money! The leaders will help the students to remember the trip back home and the offering at the end of the week.

Following along from home

Parents, we've set up a special page on the website for you to follow our adventures! Head to to keep up with all the action!

I will have my cell phone on me the whole week, and I would be happy to give you my number in case of emergencies. Send me an email or talk to me on the 11th if you would like it. Students will be allowed to have their phones on them during the week, but they'll be occupied and engaged for the majority of the time and will be encouraged to not use their phones a whole lot.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have. I'm really looking forward to CHIC!

Travel info

Our trip to and from Tennessee will happen in a few stages. We're meeting here at church early on Saturday, July 11th, to drive up to Boston, to fly down to Atlanta, and then take a bus up to the University of Tennessee. We'll be flying Southwest, on these flights:

July 11, 2015-   Flight number 2373 from Boston to Atlanta -     11:45am-2:30pm nonstop

July 17, 2015-   Flight number 294 from Atlanta to Boston-         1:45pm- 4:20pm nonstop

We need help driving up to the airport on the 11th and picking up on the 17th. Let me know if you can help drive (if you haven't already talked to Carin about it).

We will plan on buying lunch at the airport before we get on the plane, both ways. Make sure you (or your student) have extra cash for food.

Make sure you read up on our packing list as you get ready! And be sure to follow along with all our adventures!

Packing for CHIC!

CHIC is only a few weeks away, and it's time to start thinking about packing. Here are some helpful tips and guidelines:

  • Click here for CHIC's suggested packing list
  • We will only be able to bring 1 checked bag per person. If that's a hardship for you, I suggest getting together with some friends and coordinating.
  • "Modest" is the word of the day for clothing and swimsuits. All swimwear needs to fit appropriately, which means it needs to stay on and stay put, covering everything it needs to cover.

If you're having a hard time with anything in particular, please talk to Pastor Chris or one of the leaders and we'll help you get things sorted out.

Read up on our travel info, and make sure you keep up to date as we're in Tennessee!

End of Year programming notes

As the school year draws to a close (or almost starts to begin to kind of draw to a close), we wind down our programming at church, too. We have just two more High School XL nights left, and one more Friday Night Live, and all are going to be extra awesome.

June 7 - It'll be XL as usual this Sunday, and I've invited the current 8th graders to join us. They'll be in high school next year, but XL is way too awesome to not share. Be ready to welcome them!

June 14 - This is our last XL of the school year, and we're having an ice cream party! Please bring your favorite topping to share, and we'll provide the ice cream (because my favorite ice cream topping is more ice cream). It'll be at the same time as usual, 6:30 to 8:30pm.

There's only one Friday Night Live left! Head to church on June 12, 7 to 9pm, for our end of year party and Ice Cream extravaganza! Bring a topping to share and come ready to run around and play lots of games. Lots.

Just because XL and FNL are almost over doesn't mean the fun has to stop! We'll be hanging out over the summer, so make sure you stay connected. If you're not signed up to get text messages, here are instructions.
